Hello all! This is Christopher Forgione, Owner of Steam Resto Carpet Cleaning and Restoration Services
In this post i will be sharing some useful tips when it comes to removing unexpected stains on your carpet, furniture, mattress, or any other fabric. When a stain first occurs people tend to panic and are immediately thinking,” I MUST get this out,” they then grab anything close that they believe will absorb the nasty inconvenience, and then they go to war. They find themselves so crazed and armed against this icky enemy, it causes them to make the most common of all mistake when it comes to trying to remove any spills, urine, feces, mud…etc. They, RUB the stained fabric and then SOAK it with a home spot removal agent.
Doing such can cause the stain to permanently damage your investment, even if you later decided to get your carpets professionally cleaned, the damage is already done. Once you have chosen to rub the stain it destroys the fibers and causes the stain to soak deeper into the fabric / carpet. It will also wear the fabric and most likely cause discoloration. It will no longer be aesthetically pleasing to the naked eye.
Now by using most of the known household cleaning products, you are risking that the product will leave a residue behind which could permanently stain the fabric.
The best true form of attack on the enemy that has now invaded your fabric would be to, BLOT the spot with a dry white cloth to absorb any excess. Than, once the excess is absorbed repeat this process with a white cloth dampened with distilled vinegar, or water . Once it drys completely, repeat the process.
If the stain does not fully come out call a professional technician and immediately schedule an appointment.. Now, when I say ”Professional” I mean true technician, one with a truck mounted machine who will come into your home and access the situation and take their time to explain to you what the approach will be to get the best results. If there is a portable machine or a rented machine mentioned at all, kindly say to them, “Thanks… but no thanks” and get them out of your home as soon as possible. This will guarantee they will not have enough time to use their skilled “Quick talking” to sell you on what will be a pointless and damaging experience to not only you, but to your upholstery or carpet as well.. These portable/rented machine technicians are sales people who will manipulate the situation and are looking to just close a sale, and usually it will be a Bait & Switch when it comes to pricing.
